To anyone anticipating travel on CALA lakes this is an update by Dave Zimmerman:
Lake elevation is down approx. 3 ½ ft. From summer high. The ice, in front of our place on Snake Lake, is about 4 “ blue ice, and 1 ½ to 2 “ white frozen slush. The average day time temperature this week should be about minus 1, night time minus 4 average. Next week average daytime temp minus 12, and night time minus 15. As far as we know, no one has been on Cassels. Ice near shore is covered with snow. Could be thinner due to insulation factor. Future snow will slow down freezing.
Lake is dropping, so narrows will be more dangerous. Will update as we get new information. The big part of the lake on Rabbit is probably still wide open. Safe ice could be a couple of weeks away. We must be patient, or expect a tragic swim. We’ve recently had a computer wipeout, so could you pass this along to anyone you think would be interested. Thanks.
